Leura Village Association: Activities and Information

The Association was established in 1980 and membership is open to both residents and businesses. The Association works to encourage and maintain a vibrant and sustainable commercial community, which recognises the unique historic value of the Leura Village precinct. You can support the Association by Becoming a Member, Volunteering or both. The Association is governed by its Constitution and guided by its Charter.

What we do

  • Provide a unified voice for the local business community
  • Lobby Council on matters pertaining to our village and its businesses
  • Research and implement ways to promote our village and services
  • Fund the costs of the LVA Website and Social Media channels
  • Fund promotional media content and editorials about the village
  • Provide the funding to promote Leura Village through our own two high profile annual events - the Leura Harvest Festival and Leura Village Fair
  • Work with external organisations to host their events in Leura
  • Advocate on issues that may affect Leura
  • Provide a pleasant garden environment for locals and visitors to enjoy
  • Fund a horticulturalist to work with volunteers to maintain the gardens in Leura Mall
  • Promote and organise the special late-night Christmas Shopping experience and funding Christmas decorations
  • Operate the CCTV system in the village.

The LVA Committee

The Committee are all volunteers committed to furthering the cause of the Association as documented in the Charter. It is elected each year at the AGM. The following were elected at the December 2024 AGM for the next year.

Milestones

Since the early 1980s the LVA has funded, established and maintained the public Gardens including the shopping Mall precinct, the Mural pathway and other key garden beds. Click Leura Village Gardens to learn more
In 1981 held the inaugural Leura Village Fair, the proceeds of which were used to fund the planting of the now iconic cherry trees.
Overseeing and providing 50% of the funding for the street paving and hard landscaping to establish the garden beds in the Mall
Successfully applied for a grant to install CCTV system
In 2015 implemented waste management for LVA events
Lighting of the plane tree in the Mall
Initiated the addition of new public seating on the west side of the Mall, and its installation by the BMCC
Contributed $20,000 towards the cost of the public amenities in the car park
Funding, designing and installing the banners for the flag poles at the northern end of the Mall
Supporting the Zero Waste project as part of the Waste Strategy policy
In 2022 developed a Charter to guide the Leura Village Association's activities


Advocacy

The LVA makes submissions on behalf of its members on matters of public interest. Some of the more recent submissions include:

  • BMCC's draft "Towards Zero Waste Strategy 2022-2031
  • Leura Area Traffic Management Plan
  • Ritz Development Application

Leura Village receives approximately 600,000 visitors per year and is one of the most visited places in the country. We are on show to the world and the village is loved for its originality, quirkiness and differentiation from the typical city experience. As a Business Member

  • You will have the opportunity to provide news updates to the website
  • You will receive regular updates from the LVA and will be very welcome to attend the monthly committee meetings
  • You will have the opportunity to network and meet other members at Meetings and events
  • You will be entitled to a stall at the Leura Village Fair & Leura Harvest Festival at discounted rates
  • As the LVA is a member of Business NSW you have direct access to the benefits of that association

Resident Members

As a resident Member

  • You are kept abreast of the matters being addressed by the LVA
  • You can have your say on what is important to you in village life
  • You can get to know fellow residents and business owners
  • You are eligible to attend the montly meetings of committee of the LVA
  • You are covered by the LVA's public liability insurance and personal accident insurance if you volunteer to work for the LVA
